The cheese steak has been a Philly tradition for over 70 years. If you’ve never had one, next time your in Philly, skip the fancy restaurants and go straight to Pat’s. Don’t kid yourself, if you’ve had a cheese steak 45 to 60 miles outside of Philadelphia area, it just isn’t the same. Another clue: if your local pizza joint has to call it a Philly Cheese steak, it ain’t.

Saturday morning, I learned that the inventor of the cheese steak passed away. Harry Olivieri was 90. Immediately I knew what had to be done — I needed to celebrate his life by eating one of the greatest culinary inventions of all time. So Saturday night, the barbecue was turned off and the cheese steaks were ordered.

God bless you Harry Olivieri, my taste buds and waistline will never be the same. I will always have mine wit.
